I want to add Awesome Fonts to my Adaptable frontpage's footer. But so far I have tried everything from using HTML format to using square brackets and nothing works.
Have someone encountered this error and will be able to help me?

If it's not working you must be are using TinyMCE Editor. Unfortunately that Editor has stopped working in Moodle 3.4 for some odd reason it stips i tags and span tags when using FontAwesome class selectors.
So you need to switch to Atto Editor instead.
Adding something like this:
<span class="fa fa-home fa-5x"></span>
Should display a Home icon. I actully am using TinyMCE now and just testing an idea which is working. The Home icon here is set in the <p></p> tag. Go figure!

I believe I am using the Atto editor as it is the default editor in my Moodle which is version 3.4.1.
When I tried using the <span></span> it does not work as well. Below are screenshots that I tried to implement it but failed.
The second photo shows that the Awesome Font is not showing.
Is there any steps that I missed out on? Any help is appreciated. Thank you.
You're entering HTML into the editor which is then converting it! You need to be in HTML mode, '<>' icon, first then type the HTML, then it won't change the symbols etc.
