What are taxonomies in Competency framework

What are taxonomies in Competency framework

Hi,

I recently started working with CBE.

I am getting confused as what is the use of taxonomies in Competency framework?

What are their levels, and how can we used them efficiently and in what manner. Whatthings we need to keep in mind while selecting taxonomies.

Why there are default 4 levels while creating competency framework?

Thank you.

taxonomies allows the administrator to select a predefined text of what the competency represents.

Is it a behavior?

Is it a skill?

Hi Shirley,

Can you direct us to the URL where we can alter the taxonomy for a given framework?

Hello,

You can find this dropdown menu in the framework settings page, at the bottom.

Best,

Thank you ramon,

Yes I know. But just like the scales they cannot be edited at that point.

I would like to set scales and taxonomy to a more meaningful set and on the fly also set the number of scales / taxonomy names.

I totally agree with you. For each competency you should be able to select the appropriate scale and taxonomy.

Additionally, you should be able to make a competency inactive if the scale and taxonomy are no longer appropriate.

Hi Shirley
can you give me an example where you need a scale and a taxonomy level.
From my point of view I only need scales.

Ralf

Hi Ralf,

I can see where an apprenticeship program would required tailored scales and taxonomy.

Some competencies are considered "skill sets" - Driving a Forklift (difference levels of forklift driver skills = scales; beginner, advanced, expert....

Some competencies are considered based in knowledge/education - Lean Six Sigma (different belts awarded for levels of Sigma = scales)

Kind Regards,

Shirley

Hi Ralf,

I have similar requirement as Shirley. I'm looking to achieve a custom taxonomy / naming convention

The naming convention used in my case is 'Capabilities' which is a combination of 3 components to achieve an outcome: knowledge, process and skills. Questioning and listening is one capability defined below.

capabilities

The scale for competency is as follows.

competency

Personally, I think capability is what you do and competency is how well you do it i.e. the scale. This could be worked round if there were the ability to customise the exiting predefined taxonomy list.

Any thoughts?

Regards

Nick
