Teacher not able to add TA

I have upgraded a user role to teacher. He wants to add a student as a teacher assistant. However, he doesn't see such role when he adds the user.

On the other hand, I, as the site admin, am able to add a user with teacher assistant role. Maybe as the site admin, I have full options.

How can I debug that?

Firstly, there is no 'core' role 'teacher assistant' so you must have created that role.

Which role can assign which other role is set in Site administration > Users > Permissions > Define Roles and then the "Allow role assignments" tab.
