On our site, we default the gradebook view unavailable to students, so teachers have time to set up the gradebook, before students see it. Since grades are a high stakes item, we don't want students to see an overall grade that may not reflect the teacher's grading scheme.
The downside of this model is that teachers struggle to remember how to then make the gradebook available to students. Has there ever been any discussion in the larger Moodle community about moving or duplicating the gradebook availability setting to the gradebook?
