STACK Maxima Failed to Create Optimized Image...sigh

Using Ubuntu 16.04 on AWS

Moodle 3.4.1+

Stack 2017121800

And amateurishly running Maxima 5.37.2 ...  since it installed so easily...

It's working. Questions look and behave properly.

In settings I removed "distrib" from the list of libraries)

In Stack Healthcheck "Create Maxima Image" fails

Create Optimised Maxima Image FAILED : [Uncached connection failed.]

I realize 5.37.2 isn't supported in STACK

Is there an easy way to remove/upgrade?

Is there a workaround to Create a Maxima image?

Thanks!

I would recommend upgrading to maxima 5.38.1 or newer. There are instructions for building an Ubuntu package from the repositories here https://moodle.org/mod/forum/discuss.php?d=360508&parent=1455982.  I am not sure if that will fix the issue with building the image, but is worth a try.

Thanks Daniel:

I will give that a try.

I am quite new to the package management

Is there a way of updating the package without building?

I tried installing the maxima binaries from Ubuntu 17.04, and there was a dependency problem (which i mostly expected). Rebuilding from source is really the correct thing to do here. You should not usually run a linked binary that is not compiled for your specific distribution or system. The build tools are usually very good at resolving dependencies.
