Well, sort of. The issue described there is more about the role switch persisting. What I'm talking about is the situation where you are a teacher who is trying to prepare your Moodle course before making it visible to students, and want to be able to switch into a student role to see how it will look for them, then back out to make more changes, then back to student to see how those changes affected it, and so on. And when you're done and the course is ready, you then make it visible to students. But you don't want them in the course until it's ready and the course begins, for obvious reasons.
This used to work just fine in Moodle 2.8, and as I said, does on my one lone test instance of Moodle 3.4. It does not on our production Moodle 3.4 (and a couple of other test/sandbox instances).
