I'm trying to understand the way moodle manages file resources, in particular the 'Server files' repository. In particular, I need to ensure course backups retain all course files even if restoring on other servers, and so I'm presuming the way to do this is ensure that all courses files appear in 'Server files', in particular within that course.
Is this correct?
Secondly, does it matter whether file resources in the course 'Server files' section are copied or linked? If the 'Make a copy of the file' option is used within the file picker, but the file already exists in that course, is the repository smart enough to keep a single copy of the file in the course (and therefore effectively use a link to the file resource), or will it now treat the otherwise identical files as two separate files?
