Moodle not accepting vtt subtitles for videos

Moodle not accepting vtt subtitles for videos

We are using Moodle's own video player and trying to add subtitles in another language for the video.

The subtitles are in the right format, but whenever we try to add them we get the error "text type file not accepted"

We have also tried to attach the subtitles on the post and find them as the embedded files, but that just tells us there are no files.

The same happens with private files.

Is there any way to fix this?

Hello there. I am just going to move your post to the General help forum as it is not specific to the lesson activity. Presumably you have read the section on subtitles and captions in the documentation on Video?

Saara,

Read through the following posts on captioning issues, https://moodle.org/mod/forum/discuss.php?d=357726#p1444042

In that discussion, several issues were identified

  1. You must use the Atto editor.
  2. The .vtt file must be encoded as UTF-8. Some Windows editors create files in a Windows encoding
  3. The external link option for caption files does not work. The files must be uploaded directly into Moodle. It will not work if the caption file is on an external server.
