Course pages editting disappears

Running version 3.3.1+ build 20170810

Adaptable Theme v1.5

Windows server 2016 10.0 build 14393

PHP v 7.0.23

Hard disk 40gb (Moodle) 140gb (Database)

RAM 8gb.

Has anyone had the problem when loading large courses using quite a lot of mp3 files, images, video that this causes the site to become non-editable and side blocks disappear.

We have an external course provider that says this doesn't happen on other sites.   They provide the files and we restore the zipped files.  We manage to put up about 6 (totalling 1.2gb) then Moodle stops.

Running a course size report shows that these courses are the largest.

Any help much appreciated.

Hi Sandra,

Seems you have a lot (maybe even too much) media that has to be loaded on opening the course main page. In regular Moodle course formats like Weeks or Topics, everything is loaded upon entering the course, which may cause problems if there are a lot of huge files to process (image, audio, video).

If there's a timeout because of the sheer volume of data to be loaded, you may need to have a look at how the media files are incorporated in your courses. Embedded external media works better than having the complete files as part of your courses.

Thanks Joost.

That was my suspicion.  It is just that the supplier says they do not have any problems on other sites...

kind regards,

Sandra

Hi Sandra,

You could ask your supplier how those other sites have been configured. It could be that there's a memory limit setting that's significantly lower than what they're used to seeing in other sites. If that's the case, there's probably a few community members in the Hardware and performance forum you could consult.
