I have created a new course (duplicated of an existing course.) Now, when users are registered via CSV file, they must enter their institution, they see a page about badges... all things that DIDN'T happen before... how do I make this stop? My goal is to have them be able to see the course immediately after logging in.

Can you check your Site Administration > Users > Profile fields for any (newly created) required custom profile fields that weren't included in your CSV import file?
And what do you mean by 'they see a page about badges'? Sometimes, the New badges block is a default part of the Dashboard page. If this is the case, you can add/remove/reorganize blocks for all users through Site Administration > Appearance > Default Dashboard page (or the url, if you have permission to edit this part of your Moodle: your.moodle.instance/my/indexsys.php).
Make sure you reset the Dashboard page to the new defaults after editing this part.
