Moodle site administration unavailable

Hello to all!

This morning when I logged into Moodle, it displayed a page, requiring to upgrade some plugins. Unfortunately, they could't be upgraded and I cancelled the installation. When proceeded to the main page, everything is ok, but 'Site administration' is not available. The link 'http://academicaproject.eu/dir/admin/index.php' redirects me to 'http://academicaproject.eu/dir/admin/index.php?cache=1' and displayes only an empty page (white, no content) sad I cleared the browser cache, no result.

How could I access the site administration? The version of Moodle is 3.1.2

Thank you in advance!

Veselina

Try logging on again and then, even if it throws you to that white screen, use the URL line of browser and go to: http://yourserver/dir/admin/purgecaches.php

Server appears to be a 3.2 so maybe it was recently upgraded? What you saw might have been typical as plugins/addons do need updaing as well when core Moodle has been upgraded.

Was moodle upgraded?   And if those plugins couldn't be updated there should be a reason.   Do you re-call how many plugins needed upgrading and what they were, by chance? (Yes, I know, probably too many ... but any info about that would be helpful.)

You might need to contact server admin for assistance.

Dear Ken,

Thank you very much for the support. I purged the caches successfully, but the problem is still the same sad

There were 7 plugins that Moodle reported to require attention, but I was unable to update them. The server was not upgraded recently.

Who could I contact for assistance and how the problem could be solved? The Moodle works normally for the users, only the admin part is inaccessible.

Best,

Veselina

Where is the site hosted?  I would check permissions on your moodle code folder or restore a backup from prior to the upgrade attempt.  You have never mentioned what exactly happened that the plugins upgrade failed - error message?

Think I'd save restore for a last restort ... other wise, however, Emma is correct ... one item to check is the ownerships/permissions on directories in moodle code directory.   Updating plugins with version 3.2-> now wipe out those directories and then rebuilds them from a downloaded upgrade zip from moodle.org.   If the directories permissions are locked down and the user under which your site runs cannot remove directories and contents + create new directories, etc. upgrades to plugins will fail.

See if you can't navigate to admin areas via URL line
After logging on, even if you experience the white screen of death, use the URL
line of your browser to see if you can't get to some admin areas that might relate:

Keep in the url line the path to your moodle .... http://site/dir/
add to the end of above the following:

Plugins overview (try this one first ... if you can get there you'll have
info to share back here:
plugins.php

Available updates to plugins
admin/plugins.php?updatesonly=1&contribonly=0

Main screen for 3.2 for Admin area
admin/search.php

Check server environment:
admin/environment.php

The above might tell us that server doesn't have what it needs for
php or some mysql settings, etc..

As far as who to contact, depends ... where are you hosted?  ... help desk tickets?   Do you have a 'cPanel' or other interface into where your site is hosted?
