Thanks Tim, good advice.
Sorry I haven't been back to you for a couple of weeks.
I managed to get STACK working on all of my installs - once I specified the correct "maxima version" in the STACK settings and ran the "healthcheck script" things ran ok.
I noticed in a forum post somewhere that the online help is embedded into the plugin files so have been working my way through the doc's ( ...moodle/question/type/stack/doc/doc.php) which have been very helpful - a great feature of the plugin.
I have put together a couple of quizzes (binomial expansions and factorisations) with my Year 9 students and they have been going ok.
The power of STACK questions in Math's is very impressive - especially when I get my head around the CAS variables and randomising the questions. We have been looking for something to enable follow through marking for multipart questions - and here it is. Thankyou.
I have a couple of questions though:
- Currently you are recommending to use Maxima 5.38.1
On my Ubuntu 14.04 LTS installs (production & test server) I have Maxima 5.32.1 & on the 16.04 LTS test server it has Maxima 5.37.2
I can't find any information to upgrade either to 5.38.1, it appears that I am running the latest Maxima versions for my Ubuntu versions. apt-get tells me I have the latest version & the .deb files that I found for 5.38.1 are for newer Ubuntu releases.
Is there a way for me to upgrade to Maxima 5.38.1? One of my concerns is that Maxima 5.37.2 is on the Ubuntu 16.04 server, and Maxima 5.37.2 is one of the versions the documentation warns to steer clear of.
In the near future we plan to upgrade the production machine to Ubuntu 16.04 to enable us to upgrade moodle to version 3.2 then 3.3 etc. down the track. Any advice on how I can get to the recommended Maxima version?
- In preparation for upgrading Moodle from 3.1 to 3.2 I have been checking our additional plugins.
I notice that STACK is compatible with Moodle 3.1/3.2/3.3 but some of the dependencies in the Moodle plugins database are not.
qbehaviour_dfexplicitvaildate (Moodle 3.1 only)
qbehaviour_dfcbmexplicitvaildate (Moodle 3.1 only)
Will this cause problems when I upgrade to Moodle 3.2 on the production server?
Thanks in advance again.
