  • mod/assign:viewgrades - allows a teacher to view the grades that students have been given (without the ability to change them, unless that is separately granted as well)
  • mod/assign:reviewgrades - as part of a marking workflow allows a teacher to place a grade into either the 'in review' state or the 'ready for release' state (this links with the 'mod/assign:grade' capability, that can set the state to 'in marking' or 'ready for review'; and the 'mod/assign:releasegrades' capability, that can set the state to 'released').

If you are using a marking workflow: https://docs.moodle.org/26/en/Assignment_settings#Use_marking_workflow

Then some users are allowed to grade the assignment, then others check / review those grades and agree they are suitable for release, another user is then able to release those grades. This is useful for a large institution that has a lot of students to grade and wants to check and standardise all grades before they are returned to students.
