For quite a while I've been thinking about navigation within the Moodle Mobile app, specifically the journey between the Course Overview and the actual course page. Between selecting a course and landing on the course page, a user visits the sections page where he/she sees a list of all available sections. I've noticed that a number of people have posted to this forum asking if there are ways to skip the sections and proceed directly to the course page. This is something I too would like users to be able do. For me the main reason is that there is no equivalent step when navigating the desktop version of Moodle.
I would like to propose an alternative to the current navigation, which more closely resembles the desktop experience. Upon selecting a course, rather than moving to the sections page, the user is taken directly to the course page with collapsed topics. I think this would achieve the practical aims the development team considered when choosing to include the sections page, but the experience would be more intuitive and familiar to desktop Moodle users.
The Moodle Mobile development team has clearly worked very hard, and the app has progressed to a state where it has all of the functionality an average user would ever need. The proposed change in navigation is intended as a small UX improvement on a really robust and versatile app.
thanks for your feedback, it is really appreciated.
We are now redesigning the app for Moodle 3.5, and the section screen is being discussed a lot.
I'd use this post as an example of the community point of view
