I need to disable the ability for students to upload files anywhere including their profile.
How can I accomplish this?

Hi Al,
Under site administration, go to users --> rights --> define roles --> choose the type of user you want to forbid uploading --> click modify (or your languages' equivalent) --> filter to "upload" --> change the upload modules you want to forbid to block.
