are you removing the block using the setting "Include a topic section" in "Front page settings"?
There was a bug in the app that made it display these blocks even if they were configured to be hidden. However, in order to fix this you need to upgrade to Moodle 3.2, since the app needs a new WS introduced in 3.2 to be able to tell if the block is hidden or not.
