Hello, 

I am facing the following situation: 

I need to add custom fields to the creation form of a course. I have read that I can solve it with a new format course but, is there any other solution?


I have to add duration, type of course, etc.

It depends on what you are trying to achieve and why, and how much you're willing to change core code.  If no core code change then the only solution from your description is a custom course format.

Actually, that is not true ...

Use the tags feature that is available to every course.  You can make tags like "Science", "History", "Technology", and then also add tags "Year Long", "Semester', "Quarter", "Trimester".  

Unless you plan to do something besides searching by the tags, tags should work.
