Stuck in Plugins check

Hi there,
bad surprise today!
My moodle suddenly stopped working, here are the details:
I'm not sure about the version I'm using, since I can't logon, but I updated it about July 2016, so 3.0.5 should be a reasonable guess.
Moodle is installed in a hosted environment.
When I try to visit the site (like http://mysyte.com/moodle) I get a blank page, the page source just shows these few lines:
<!DOCTYPE html>
<html  dir="ltr" lang="en" xml:lang="en">
<head>
    <title>English Learning Stuff</title>
    <link rel="shortcut icon" href="http://englishlearningstuff.net/moodle/theme/image.php/more/theme/1501917652/favicon" />

Then I go to http://mysyte.com/login and log in as user, and get the same result.
Then I do it again, but as admin (it forces me to log off the other user): this is what I get:

Now, 'Check for available updates' and 'Reload' bring me back to the same page, while 'Upgrade Moodle database now' opens a completely empty page (page source shows nothing at all).

I let it work for several hours, but nothing happened.

I did not make any update, it just started suddenly.

Can someone help?

Thank you in advance.

Riccardo

Well, firstly, something changed! You may not be aware what but something did. Have a think if anything was altered even if it seems completely unrelated. Ask your hosting company if they changed anything too.

Failing that, switch on Debugging. You will need to do this by adding extra lines into your config.php file. See - Debugging for info. Then try again, do you see extra messages? Can you check your web server error log?

Hi, thank you for your prompt response.

I tried with debugging activated, but I see no difference (same behavior, no extra messages).

I contacted the host, but they say that my Moodle is corrupted and should be reinstalled.

Can I do that without losing my data?

If it can help, I've got a directory called moodle_bk dated April 2017, probably a copy I did but I don't know why. I have no backup of the database.

Thanks

It's highly unlikely that the database became corrupted for no apparent reason. I would go back to them and ask for more information.
