Course end date -- what does this do?

Course end date -- what does this do?

We just updated to 3.2.4 (from 2.7). There's a new setting that is confusing our instructors -- Course End Date -- in the course settings. The pop-up explanation -- the course end date is only used for reports -- is unclear. The explanation on the 3.2 course settings documentation -- An end date may be specified, although this does not affect students' access to the course -- is rather sparse and not helpful. And the fact that the course end date is enabled by default (and can't be disabled administratively, at least not yet) is leading our instructors to ask questions we can't answer.

Could someone provide a quick explanation as to what the Course End Date setting really does? How does it effect "reports"?

Thanks very much in advance... Brian

Hello,

Apologies for the pop-up help and documentation about the course end date not being very clear.

As far as I know, the course end date is not used by any of the standard reports in Moodle, however it may be used by a custom report e.g. reporting activity for the duration of a course.

Thus, in Moodle 3.2 the setting does very little, however in 3.3 it is used for determining whether a course should be listed as 'Past' in the Course overview on students' dashboards.
