I am using Moodle 3.2.3+

For some of the students Quizzes are being automatically submitted just after clicking the attempt button, even tough total test time for only 10 minutes, in final review it shown 3 hours and 11 mins time taken. Not sure how this 3 hours came sad




For the same student, the quiz went smoothly if no time limit is set.

Can anyone please guide me how to solve this issue.

Is your Moodle site hosted on multiple web servers (e.g. in a load-balanced set-up)? Are the clocks on those servers in synch? (Server clocks three-hours out-of-synch is really suprising, but it is the most likely cause. NTP for-the-win.)

No, Moodle is hosted in a single web server, I am using single DigitalOcean Droplet as traffic is very less for my site.

Ubuntu 16.04.2 x64

512 MB Memory.


Is there any other to check the error, like logs etc.

Well, can you reproduce the problem yourself?

Can you establish an exactly timeline for what happens (the Moodle logs or the web server logs might help with that.)

The only ways Moodle can record a time of 3 hours (that I can think of) are:

  • 3 hours pass.
  • Two different servers with their clocck three hours out-of-synch.
