Strange audio file behaviour

Strange audio file behaviour

When we upload an audio file to a course, the audio plays when a user clicks on it. However if we add a folder to the course, and drag audio files into this folder, when a user clicks on one of the audio files, the audio file is downloaded rather than playing. How can we correct this please?  Thanks!

Hi Martin,

Have you tried using a Label resource instead? Works for me with one or multiple files. In fact I put all kinds of other things in labels using the Generico filter...tabs, accordians, calculators, countdown timers, videos, personalized greetings/instructions, etc..

May have to do with the fact that the multimedia and audio filters don't apply to files in courses as Resource > File. AL's suggestion, either with or without Generico, sounds sensible.

And in Moodle 3.3, you get prompted on how to handle such a media file when you drag-drop it in your course: as a Resource > File, or as part of a course section.

A label is no good - you can't add a folder to a label.

We want to use a folders as there are about 25 audios per section and 50 sections in the course. If we display all the audios in the root of the course, it is very long and hard to navigate. Looks like we're stuck with that though.

Try adding the audio file as a link on a Page (or a Book if you want to add chapters).

i.e. add a Page, click on the "Link" button in Atto text editor and click "Browse repositories" to upload your file as a link. The link will be converted to an audio player when you save the Page.

Have you looked at the possibility of using the Podcast (mod_pcast) activity? It has a number of ways to present files, by alphabet, category, date, or author. It also works with video files. Each entry shows a title, summary, category, the media file (within a player), author, created date and last updated date. If anything is posted by a student, the activity can be set to require approval before anyone else can see/hear it.
