I want to give credit for a certain minimum number of posts to the forum per week. So, I assigned a "1" to every post that was on topic and had something significant to say and a "0" for those that didn't qualify ("me, too" posts, "When's the next test?", off-topic posts, etc.). I limted ratings to that week and set the "maximum grade" to "1" in the gradebook.
The problem is that instead of simply giving me the total number of ratings points, the grade book is averaging them. This means that people who got "0" on one or more posts have weird fractions as their grade.
Is there a simple way to have the gradebook add up the ratings points? The only solution I see at this point is tallying by hand with a calendar. Is there a better way to count posts?

Hi Jeffrey, actually it is the forum module that is averaging the points, the gradebook just displays the grade total the forum sends it. There is discussion over in forum about how to change this (IIRC it requires a minor change to the code).

Thanks! I went back to the forum module forum and found this thread from June, that I must have passed up on my original search.

It looks like some other folks missed it, too, based on some more recent postings; I'll post the link there, too.
