Active a plugin

Hi All,

Please help me,

I am an eLearning Developer looking at using the drag and drop plugin for creating assessments.

I have asked my Moodle Administrator of the LMS (Moodle 2.9) to install the  drag and drop plugin,  and I provided them with this URL for the plugin as follows:

https://moodle.org/plugins/browse.php?list=set&id=10https://moodle.org/plugins/browse.php?list=set&id=10

But instead, they responded to say that  'it takes time and needs to be carefully planned and staged with extensive testing in a UAT environment prior to implementing it on a live system where there is a possibility it could have serious system implications'.

I thought the  Drag and drop plugin that has been used by other workplaces would be ok to be installed on Moodle 2.9 as the drag and drop plugin has been around long before Moodle 2.9.

My question is how difficult it would be to install this drag and drop plugin?  And is it that big of a problem that it requires testing and if so how long should the testing take? I would have thought this popular plugin would be ok to install directly. Please reply if you can shed some light on my query.

My thanks in advance to all.

Regards,

Carmelo

Generally your Administrators are right to be cautious about installing plugins, and for me one of the reasons is concerns that they will be supported in the future. However in this case I suggest they should make an exception for two reasons.

  • 1. These question types were created originally by the UK Open University one of the worlds largest distances learning organisations and have been installed on many tens of thousands of systems over many years.

  •  2. These question types were incorporated into core Moodle with the release of Moodle 3.0 and therefore will be on systems that have over 100 millions of users and will be supported in the same way as the rest of Moodle. Of the two drag/drop/image question types this is probably the easiest to use https://docs.moodle.org/32/en/Drag_and_drop_onto_image_question_type
