I have not tried uploading student recordings. Great idea actually. Thanks for nudging my thinking into this area of experimentation.
I do have a line on speech-to-text tools including some open source options. It seems that it is an emerging business.
Still hope to keep things simple, tapping into a readily available tool that converts speech to text and then compares that text to "right answers" using existing technologies that currently compare typed answers to acceptable answers. It means, to my my mind, that the tool here doesn't start from scratch. It merely adds a layer to existing tools.
