Moodle in English: Navigation Question

Navigation Question

Hello. I can't figure out how to navigate within a topic. I have a course with nine topics. Some topics have multiple pages within them. Once I'm on one of those pages, I can't figure out how to navigate to the next page without going back to the topic, either in the course navigation on the left, or the breadcrumbs up above. There must be a way. Or maybe not. Thanks for any help, and sorry if this has already been answered somewhere else.

Here is a screenshot of one of my pages. I can navigate forward and back to topics on the left, but there is no navigation to other pages within this topic. There are two other pages in the topic on this screenshot, but there is no way to access them without returning to the highlighted topic on the left. Is there a way to see additional navigation on the page, or in the breadcrumbs? Thanks for your time.

Hi Naci,

Thanks for providing the screenshot.

It appears that you are using the wrong activity type in this scenario based on what you want to achieve. I believe you would achieve what you are looking for if you use the Book module instead. Take a look at the link below to see a demo of how this would work. You can see you have the navigation down the left hand side and then the left and right pagination to move through each page in the "book".

You also have the option to enable the Navigation block, if you have not already done so. This will allow you to skip through your existing pages without leaving the page to see navigation. If you click 'Blocks editing on' and then 'Add a block' and select 'Navigation' then the following block will appear for you down the right hand side of your page.

Thanks a lot, Craig. I looked at the Book module but wasn't sure it was the better option. I'll take another look. I have the content already, so there's no harm in changing the layout. Is the Navigation block designed to be used only in site administration, or could it be accessible by the student? I really appreciate the help. I'm new to Moodle, but I think it's going to be a great tool.

Book Quiz Question

Is there a way to include a quiz in a book? Or, is there a way to link to a quiz within a book? The book module seems to work well for presenting content, but I can't figure out a good way to present a quiz.

Book quiz question

Hello there! Books are really for presenting static content to be read, watched or listened to. If you want to include quizzes in there then one standard Moodle alternative is the Lesson activity It is quite complex but it does allow you to have pages of content and then questions. I suggest you explore the Lesson activity documentation and then if you have any questions specifically about the lesson, you post them in the Lesson forum - link here
