Admin mark activity/course as complete for a student

Admin mark activity/course as complete for a student

Hey guys, am I being really dumb or is it not currently possible for an Admin to mark an Activity (not a manual completion Activity) or Course as complete for a student?

I've searched all over and can't find a straight answer.

I've seen that it can be done by editing the DB but that's not really an option as our site is provided by an external supplier.

Surely I'm not the only one who needs to do this via the UI?

Am I just searching for the wrong question - I've tried all variations of the subject of this post.

Thanks in advance!

You are not the only one wanting this feature but it is not available as yet.

??? surely if you can set in completion settings manual completion by various roles there must be some way of marking users has having completed. What am I missing?

You're missing Moodle 3.4 - the feature for teachers to mark activities complete on behalf of their students comes with that (scheduled on Nov 13)

Hi Mary,

Where can I find the feature for teachers to mark activities on behalf of students ?

I have looked https://docs.moodle.org/34/en/Managing_activities with no success.

This is what I am trying to do - any help would be appreciated.

I am using Moodle 3.4.3

I have a course with 5 tests.

Each test is marked as complete when the student has passed the test.

The tests are the only items shown on the Completion Progress block which I am using on the course.

I am importing 2000 student grades into a course.

I want to find a way of setting these students progress to match their grades, as a last resort I will need the time to manually input this data.

Many thanks

Bill

Thank you Mary,

I see I can download the activity completion report to Excel.

Is there anyway of modifying the Excel data and then uploading it?

If this requires an update to 3.5 then thats fine.

Hi Mary,

This is a great added feature! I'm looking for a way for a Teacher to complete the Certificate activity for a student so that the notifications that are set in the Certificate activity are acted upon. In the Certificate activity settings > Issue options > upon Teacher completion of the activity (in the Activity completion report) The email that is set in the Certificate activity, Issue options "Email others" addresses, that address receives an email, and the "Delivery" set to "email", means the user will receive the Certificate in their email.

The only other way of doing this, that I know of, is to Login-as the user and click on the Certificate.

Any alternative is welcome. Basically looking for a way for teachers to complete a course for students, where the teacher and student receive email notification upon that completion, and that the Certificate is made available, and/or emailed to the student, by this same action.

Thanks!

Mary is at all possible in ver 3.6 of Moodle to mark a topic as completed as part of course completion? As opposed to ticking all activities inside the topic.

I don't think it is possible to mark a topic as completed, no, only individual activities.

Can't you log in as the student (Log_in_as) and complete the activity for them?

Or if you need to edit the DB and no access, is there an SQL plugin you could use so that you can change DB entries via the UI?

Hey Gareth,

Thanks for your reply. Yes, I could log in as them and complete the activity but it's a SCORM package that takes about 20 minutes to complete (plus, I'd have to know the correct answers to complete the quiz!). There's a few students that I need to complete it for so that's not really an option.

Regarding editing the DB from the UI - any ideas what the plugin is called as I've had a quick search and can't see anything obvious.

Cheers!

Are there any plans to put such a functionality in place? It seems extremely odd that this would not have been a built in feature from the start.

I thought I had seen this on a future feature list somewhere, maybe in 3.3?..definitely needed...

Thank you. That's helpful. However, in the short term, is there a way to perhaps do this manually through the database for several students?

Hi -

I am also looking for a way I can mark an activity complete for multiple students at one time. Have you found a solution for this?

Thanks for the response. The link you posted is good to know, however, I have a large number of students that I need to fast track to course completion. I was hoping there would be a way I could perform this operation in bulk.
