Hello,

Running 3.0.8+ latest build (20170109) and on RHEL 6.6 64-bit using PHP 5.5.21 and MySQL 5.5.52

We noticed that we have some mdl_pma_* tables in our database and was wondering what these tables are for.

the collation type is utf8_bin

Could it be causing our other error reading database situation as the collation type is different?

is it possible that you might have installed the phpmyadmin plugin? - it hasn't been supported for quite a while so it's possible you deleted it from the code but forgot to clean up the database tables that were being used.
