Journal (plugin)

In some school based courses students are expected to plan their time over say a half term or a term for a particular assignment. They would need to estimate times needed for each part of a project development with deadlines, write dated comments as their work progresses and state whether the steps in their plan hit deadlines were late etc. I suppose a simple version of project planning. However the teacher would need to be able to get an overview of thier classes interim deadlines (the ones set by students not teachers) with links directly to the students project entries.

Are any of the modules mentioned able to provide this kind of project planning?

If not I'd like to have a go at creating something like this.  How would I best go about it?
