"Since I can't see moodle in that list I am not sure if it is running? How do I start moodle if it is not?"

On a typical CentOS 6 install NOT using Bitnami or other such package (which isn't needed), one doesn't launch Moodle as an application ... Moodle is run by php/js served out from httpd service.  So seeing the test.php file by itself without seeing a 'moodle code' directory, could indicate an issue.

What happens when/if you click on the test.php file?   Take it that's a phpinfo page .... does it display php info?

In your /etc/httpd/conf/httpd.conf are there virtual apaches defined at the bottom of that file? (sites by different FQDN ... like blog.something, moodle.something, etc.)

In your /etc/hosts file is there a line for the 192.x interface with the FQDN of the server + shortname?

Hi Ken,

Thanks for all your help.

I managed to solve the problem by using Ubuntu Server instead of CentOS.

Welcome!   Glad to hear you've 'solved it' ... uhhhhh, errrr ... did you just "jump out of the frying pan and into the fire" ... as it is said.   Might be best as most Moodle docs are written with Debian based Ubuntu center stage.   Just one piece of advice ... now that you've chosen the 'poison', start researching 'antidotes' for the 'poison'.    Easy to do ... seek out the official Ubuntu web site/pages/wiki/faqs etc. for your version of Ubuntu - bookmark them. ;)

And remember ... it's a 'journey'.
