I know this is an older post but, if anyone else comes across a similar issue, the following settings should work:
SMTP Hosts: smtp.mailgun.org:465
SMTP Security: SSL
SMTP Auth Type: Login
SMTP Username: postmaster@<yourmailgundomain>.com
SMTP Password: <your mailgun domain password>
