Just to let you know, the user profile pages here at moodle.org now display all approved plugins the user is maintainer of, or has contributed to. Such a feature was mentioned couple of times and was also reported as MDLSITE-4714 by Brendan Heywood (hey, you can now check his profile to see the plugins he maintains! ).
This has been implemented using standard Moodle core features without the need to hack into the profile page. Check for the My profile API to see how any Moodle plugin can easily inject its content into the user profile page.
