sum of ratings not active/visible for some students

Hello, 

I am using the sum of ratings feature to mark student forum posts. However, for some students there is no drop-down menu to select a rating. Instead it is inactive text that has "Sum of ratings" but no drop-down menu. Is there a setting I am missing?

Check to see if the post was made after the due date.  This might be the problem.  If so, simply change the due date.

Actually, I like it that posts made after the due date do not allow me to rate them.  In this way, I know who made their post late.
