Hi Rick

Yes, the email feature is good. However, we've been using Fronter LMS before and are used to course announcements being shown at the top of the course page. It's a nice way of drawing attention to an important issue. Usually we had only two or three announcements per course per month, and they occupied only half-a screen.

Incidently - how did you disable the announcements?

To disable Announcement (or News Forum), just hide it.

I don't know how to have Moodle splash only announcements, then let the student get into the meat of the course.  Maybe there is a theme that will do this.  Maybe Essentials theme.  I use the core MORE theme.
