Moodle analytic visualisation tools

Moodle analytic visualisation tools

Hi guys,

I'm doing a review of analytic tools for moodle. Moodle has an amazing depth of data to mine and I'm investigating what is out there for visualisation.

Obviously there are the basic reports, activity completion tracking and engagement analytics plugins but was wondering what people are using for deeper analyisis that allows for some different ways to visualise data.

I've looked at Smartklass but the developer isn't responding.

Any other suggestions?

We are working toward building more analytic and visualization tools into Moodle Core, and we are collecting use cases now. Can you give us an idea of what kinds of reports or views would help you the most? What problems are you trying to solve with these reports?

Meanwhile, you may want to review the plugins in this list, if you have not yet done so: https://docs.moodle.org/31/en/Learning_analytics

I can confirm that the Analytics Graphs plugin is a nice entry level plugin that gives useful information without requiring the installation of separate analytics software, or an external account. It is still being developed further and we are looking forward to its next version.

Paul.

I want to setup a organisation level hierarchy within moodle so that a department head or supervisor can access reports of all users under his team without getting enrolled as course manager or teacher in any of the course.

So just want to define a separate relation between users and der super users (boss) irrespective of moodle standard roles.

Hi Trevor

Have you seen this one: http://melbourne-cshe.unimelb.edu.au/research/edutech/completing-the-loop

It was only published this week through a government grant and though it is not a plugin there is a tool that can be downloaded from the Git-hub and installed on a server.

There is an associated report with the project: http://melbourne-cshe.unimelb.edu.au/__data/assets/pdf_file/0006/2083938/Loop_Handbook.pdf

Overall it looks quite good and is open source ;)

Thanks for posting this. I think there is a higher value in student interactions (e.g. assignment submissions, quiz attempts, forum posts) than page views, but perhaps that will come in a later version.

You can take a look on https://www.zoola.io as a very robust analytics and visualization solution. Is there any better description of what exactly you're looking for?
