How can you configure the section size ?

How can you configure the section size ?

I am upgrading from moodle 1.9 to 3.1.

I backed up and restored a course.

All the data transfer with no problem.

The problem is the format.

The first sections are fine then the next formats overflow the limits of what a section is supposed to be.

How can I edit the section size so that they stay within the correct size ?

Here is a picture of what it looks like in the attachment.

I have tried restoring from 1.9 to other versions like 2.1 and 2.2 and the same happens.

The other sections overflow their borders and are not readable.

The WHITE is the correct size of the previous section.

The BLUE is the new and incorrect size of the section that causes it to go buggy.

These look like labels, not sections..?

What theme are you using?

Hi

Yes they are labels but the whole section, label included, overflows.

This is without any theme. Default theme if moodle 2.2 had any.

Looks the same on moodle 3.1 with whatever theme I put on it.

Here is another picture.

After the first erroneous section overflows, the next sections appears as if in a second column.

This looks like an old theme on a new site.

Go to your theme settings and select Clean as your theme and see if the issue is still there.

(It is not possible to not have a theme!)

It was on the default theme but when I changed it to other themes including CLEAN it still was just a mangled mess.

So I think the problem is with the course. Other courses imported correctly but this one had these glitches.

Any idea where to adjust widths for individual courses ?

If it is just one course, I suggest fixing the content so that it displays correctly.  In the long run, that will save you a lot of time and avoid several headaches!

It is not a simple fix to adjust width for one course - I think you would need to create a css class specific to that course and apply it somehow.  Might need some very creative css additions or even some php manipulation.  Not something you want to have to do every time you reload this specific course.

But how do I fix the content ?

The course has a lot of  content.

So very time consuming to copy one thing at a time.

Figured it out

Did back up again with no labels.

This time it transferred correctly.

I'll copy labels manually.

That's not so much.

Thanks

It looks very much as if some of that content has originally been copied and pasted from somewhere like MSWord, or contains additional and unnecessary (and sometimes 'destructive') css in the background.

You may be able to copy your label content as plain text (via a plain text editor if necessary) and then use Moodle's formatting tools to re-format it. That may save some time over re-entering all the content. Don't be tempted to recreate it in Word and then re-add it, you'll just be bringing more problems back into your new site again smile

It turns out it was the bullets.

It worked fine in the old Moodle but for some reason the formatting in the new Moodle made everything go nuts.

I removed the bullets from the label and it was fine.

Thanks
