Extremely slow content import for Moodle 2.7 to 2.9

Hi there,

We have to migrate content from Moodle 2.7 to 2.9.

We exported content from 2.7 and now importing to 2.9

The import is extremely slow  : we have 500Mo files started 20h ago and only 30% in progress (local import, no server or bandwith issue).

Does anyone have an idea of what to do to improve that  ?

We still have a lot of files to import and we are overwhelmed with the time to spend waiting...

Thanks in advance for your help.

The first question is whether it is a bug or whether the server is too weak. To eliminate the latter, monitor your server as it tries to import. For details on how to do that, check the initial pointers here https://moodle.org/mod/forum/post.php?forum=94, in the Hardware and performance forum https://moodle.org/mod/forum/view.php?id=596.

As I said, it's not a server issue : we are working locally. Any idea of what could make that happen ? in the files structure or anywhere else ?

Thanks.

If what you are doing is a straight copy of files from one folder to another on a local machine, then it would appear the issue is with that process on that machine, irrespective of the fact these are Moodle files. Presumably you are using the Operating system based file transfer tools, so that is the first place to look for a reason/solution.
