Turnitintool assignment upgrade possible?

Hi,

We have both the old turnitintool and the newer turnitintooltwo mods installed, but we want to remove the old one, however we still have about 1000 assignments that were made in the old one.

Does anyone know if it is possible to upgrade the assignments to the new turnitintooltwo? Or will they all need to be recreated in the Moodle courses?

Thanks.

You could  take away the permission

mod/turnitintool:addinstance

From teachers (and whoever else might create activities), existing Turnitin assignments will still be usable by teachers but that version will no longer appear in the list of activities and so they will not be able to create new ones. Here is how this can be done

Site Admin

Users

Roles

Select edit (gearwheel) for Teacher and whoever else you want to update

Click Edit Button

Search for "Add new turnitin"

Set to prevent

Now the old turnitin  plugin will not appear in the list of things that can be created but the old instances will still be available. Let me know if this is an option and if it works for you.

That could potentially work. Do you know if the old turnitintool works in Moodle 3.1? The downloads say it only supports up to 2.9

It depends who you believe. If you believe this page

https://guides.turnitin.com/03_Integrations/Turnitin_Partner_Integrations/Moodle/Moodle_Direct_V1/Release_Notes_-_Moodle_Direct_v1

Then yes it works with Moodle 3.0

If you believe one of the Turnitin developers, John McGettrick then no it doesn't

https://moodle.org/plugins/mod_turnitintool

And if you want to believe me then it seems to except that you may find that it is possible to submit assignments even though the user has not clicked the box that says they have agreed with your plagiarism policy.

My main advice is to test, test and test again and try to move to V2 if possible.

Hi Conn,

We're currently working on a migration tool to migrate all data from v1 to v2. We had hoped to release it by now but ran in to problems with capacity which we've diagnosed as being due to updating the grade items. We're currently working on a solution to this.

As Marcus says, you could prevent users adding instances of v1 via the permissions which we are advising users to do.

As for Moodle 3.1 support, we hope to release a v2 update before the end of the month to officially support v2 and will look at v1 support for Moodle 3.1 after that.

Cheers

John
