Force forum images to display in emails

Force forum images to display in emails

When you make a forum post and it emails all the students, the images in the forum post display as broken images. The images can only be viewed if the user is logged into moodle. I've read other posts on the moodle forums where the pros and cons of this functionality are discussed but there's no work around or solution.

What I would like to know is, is there a way to force the images to display in the email without the user being logged in? Change settings, hack something in the code, file permissions in moodle data etc.? It would be nice to know if it is at all possible even if it isn't good practice.

Yes. Instead of uploading an image into the course, use the URL of an image that are stored/served by a public server.

moodle logoFor example, the logo on the right is included because everyone in the world can reach the URL, whereas the following screenshot was uploaded directly, and I expect it to appear as a broken link unless you are logged in to the moodle community.
