Hi O' Gradebook Pro and Most Enlightened One
I have a problem to solve. At the moment, the only way I know that I can handle resit marks is to overwrite the old Final Exam mark with the new Final Exam (resit) mark. The disadvantage of this is that in Moodle there is no record of the old mark. I can write the old Final Exam score in my diary, but my Head Of Department wants a way whereby the old mark and the new mark are recorded properly in Moodle. What can I do? Kindly advise.
Final Exam contributes 50% towards the CFG.
Assignment contributes 40% towards the CFG.
Test contributes 10% towards the CFG.
So in the example above, (18% * 0.5) + (65% * 0.4) + (70% * 0.1) = 42.00. Below 50. A fail grade.
Last semester, the student failed because he scored 42/100 which is below the passing mark of 50%. He then took the resit paper and passed. Resit students who pass can only get an overall 50% as the maximum overall mark, which is the CFG. I was not told what the student actually scored in the resit Final Exam. It could have been 20/50 or 29/50. I was not told. I was only told that he passed the resit paper, and that I should edit his Gradebook so that his Course Final Grade (CFG) is a 'C' (a Pass). So what I did was to bump up his Final Exam mark from 9/50 to 17/50 = 34/100. That made his CFG = 50.0 exactly. No more, no less.
This resulted in him getting an overall score of 50/100. Which is a 'C' grade.
(34% * 0.5) + (65% * 0.4) + (70% * 0.1) = 50.00.
So that's the quick-and-dirty way I used to get Moodle to show that he scored a 'C' grade for his course. The student does not see the raw Final Exam mark in the Gradebook.
So what can I do, I beseech you - O enlightened One - who knows more about Moodle Gradebook than I, to ensure that Moodle can keep a record of BOTH the old Final Exam score and the new Final Exam score? My Head Of Department wants a better more 'scientific' way of entering resit marks without obliterating the old mark.
A more complex but proper procedure, that may be necessary in future, is assuming that the ACTUAL resit final exam mark was, let's say, 24/50, and my Head Of Department wanted me to actually record that as 24/50 inside the gradebook, but to have the Course Final Grade to be limited to 50/100 for the resit students. Is there a way to do this complex procedure, O Enlightened One?
Indeed, it is my noble Quest to find the answers to these questions. I do hope that I will chance upon an answer from someone more versed with the Moodle Gradebook than I.
A mere Hobbit in Moodle-Shire.
