Is the current version of mod_game compatible with Moodle 3.1? Has anyone tried it?
Natassia
We just upgraded from 2.9 to 3.1, with the latest version of Game. I've looked at some existing instances of the Game activity and they seem to work fine.
One potential problem - in the file picker, the individual Game components are intermixed with the rest of the modules. It does look nicer, but it is less obvious that they are all part of the single Game module. It seems that it will be more likely now for a teacher to think that Crossword (for example) is a stand-alone activity:
Other than that, it seems to work fine.

When migrating from 2 to 3, and then 3.1 all existing game modules broke (strangely, the crosswords worked from 3 to 3.1, but not the others). If we recreated the game exercises they seemed to work fine and continue to work.

I have been porting moodle mod game to Moodle 3.1, so far only got 3 modules working - crossword, cryptex, and hangman.
I have a fork of the github source code here:

I fixed the problems for 3.1 compatibility that you mention.
Some changes are the changes you proposed.
Thanks for the update, your game module is working fine for me now.
Hi David,
we have the same problem. In the activity choser the sub-modules of game (e.g. "Crossword") are mixed up with the other activities.
That is very confusing for the users. Though we are interested in recovering the old grouping behaviour urgently!
Do you have a solution meanwhile?
Does anyone else have ideas?
(apart from that games are working well with our Moodle 3.1)
Thanks and kind regards
Klaus
Klaus,
I haven't taken the time to do it yet, but I plan to at least try to edit the language strings for the help text in the activity chooser for each component of the Game module. I mainly want to make sure that teachers know that these are not stand-alone activities.
If you or anyone else has a solution, please pass it on.
Thanks!
David
