I need to have and activity where a student selects an option and depending on the option or grade received a set of assignments is displayed. I understand the add restriction function but I can't seem to find an activity that suits. I have tried a quiz question and having certain assignments show up be pending on the grade but what I really need is a button. E.g. The student selects three units of competency and clicks on those and the corresponding assignments become visible. Like a multiple choice questing where the choices determine which Assignment display. Just can't seem to come up with and easy way. Tried using links but they can all be displayed and clicked. Anyone have any thoughts on this? Thanks in advance. Cheers Rob Beckett
I don't even know if that makes sense.
It kind of does Rob
What about continuing the sort of approach you have used but with a multiple response type question. You could arrange the scoring a bit like a binary method (A = 1, B = 2, C = 4, etc). From the total you can calculate what each of the options selected are and use that on your conditional release?
I haven't tried it and I'm not sure it would work - I'm simply brainstorming an idea
Thanks for that I tried that but haven't seen it through yet. At least it confirms my thinking. Cheer Rob Beckett South Australia TAFE SA
You can pair a Choice with an Assignment. The assignment access is restricted to only students who have selected the paired Choice. The Choice activity controls which activity opens up and permits access based on Completion tracking for the Choice set to Show activity as complete when conditions are met > Show as complete when user makes a choice. You can make each activity worth so many points and control access to everything based on the score being below a certain amount. Once they have have the right number of points/grade, access to any more choice/activity pairs can be denied.
Thanks a lot that was my original thought but didn't really think I could do that so I will go back and think it right though and see haw that works. The plan is it identify units of competency or whole qualifications in the Choice activity and when they are selected these evidence assignments would become visible and only these assignments. Off to take another look even though it is Sunday morning, I can't stop thinking about it and have to get it sorted asap. Thanks again .
Hi I have looked at the Choice Activity again but there isn't an option to add a score to the selections made. The Choice activity only gives you a display with the number of participants who choice the options. How would you suggest that I try this as a Multiple choice quiz question?
Hi I have now tried it in both a quiz and a Choice activity and the scoring is non existent in the choice activity and the Quiz Multiple choice the scoring is a nightmare using percentages to add up to 100% and the Restrict access is Greater than or less than. So if the selection generates 25% the Restricts access has to say greater than 24% and less than 26%. If it has two or more selections it will get pretty complicated with all the possibilities. The selections are 25% several are 5%, some 20% and some 10%. Not sure I can get this to work.
- So all would be 100%
- First selection 25&
- First and second 25 + 5% = 30
Maybe I am missing something here.

Sorry Rob, we are on opposite sides of the globe so there is a 'slight' lag in my response.
I did not mean to try and use a 'score' from the Choice activity, but to use it to:
- keep track of who has selected the choice
- who has not selected the choice
- completion tracking for making a choice
Scenario: I have four assignment activities and I want my students to complete any three of the four. I create four choice activities and four assignment activities, with each choice paired with an assignment. In my test site I have each pair of assignments in their own topic, just for 'looks.'
Each of the four choice activities has a restriction set that prevents access unless at least one other choice has not been completed. Selecting a choice automatically triggers completion of that Choice activity.
Each activity has two restriction sets. One prevents access unless it's corresponding Choice has been completed. The other prevents access unless at least one other assignment activity has not been completed. Assignment completion is automatic once the student views the activity as they can't view it unless they picked it's Choice. In the past I tried to use/include grade as part of the restriction, but a quick student and a slow grading teacher makes it possible for the student to do too much.
I have a test site I can give access to if you would like where I have this set up. It is Moodle 3.1beta where Dan McGuire and I are playing with competencies. Send an email or PM for details on how to access the site.
