Peer Assesment of Group Work

Peer Assesment of Group Work

I am curious if anyone has created or if Moodle has an activity that allows for peer assessment related to group work?  I have created groups and the students have completed the assignment but I would like each student to now evaluate their group members on a simple scale of 1-10.  It would be good if there was an option to include text but the scale is more important as I can address low marks individually.  I would like something that tallies a rating for each students based on their peer's choices.

Any help on this would be awesome.

Hi Kevin,

Over the years that I've been using Moodle, I've haven't yet found satisfactory tools for implementing group work and/or peer-review.

What I've ended up doing most often is using thee Forum module to allow groups/individuals to post their work (groups and groupings can help with the specifics of what you want to achieve) and then using the Forum ratings feature can be useful under some circumstances.

Apart from that, I think a dedicated platform for group-work and peer-review is a better option. Personally, I'm impressed with this one: http://info.catme.org/ (Disclaimer: I have no affiliation with anyone involved in this project).

Hi Kevin,

If you can add the plugin Dataform to your Moodle installation, you can apply the attached preset in an empty Dataform activity and adjust it to your needs. See also the discussion about group peer review HERE. The attached preset is from Itamar Tzadok, which I used in fall 2015 and spring 2016. HERE is the link to Itamar Tzadok's PDF tutorial.

With kind regards,

Hartmut

I run a design project in which each of eight students in a group designs a component of a complex development, such as a harbour. There is an initial planning phase in which the group prepares a feasibility report that explains how the components relate to each other and to the project as a whole.  Each student receives the same "group assessment" of the report, as determined by the examiner, but "bonus marks" are awarded to each member of the group according to the results of the attached peer assessment Questionnaire which is in "radio button" format to encourage students to apply their minds to the questions, rather than simply rank all members at the highest level.
