Custom Role - Visual Access Centre Staff

Custom Role - Visual Access Centre Staff

Hi,

I am trying to set up a custom role for Visual Access Centre staff, who support blind students in school.

They need to create & populate Visual Access courses, for which I have given them Course Creator capabilities at subject category level but I need to tweak this role so that they can also enter & add their large print versions of course hand-outs into existing courses that they have not created themselves.  Has anyone else done this? Is it possible please?

Thanks Nancy

Hi,

No responses to my original post....

Does that mean it's not possible to permit Course Creators to add material to other people's courses?

Please just let me know.

Thanks

Nancy

A regular course creator can't add materials to courses created by others, no. You could achieve what you need by giving them a manager role - would this be OK or is it too much?

Thanks so much for your help.

They are Teaching Assistants who specialise in helping the visually impaired and are not proficient with IT!

I have created a Visual Access role, based on the Manager archetype, but preventing everything apart from creating courses, managing activities, viewing hidden activities, courses & sections and using the repository.

I have given them this role at category level (our school subjects) throughout the system.

I would have liked to prevent them from accidently deleting any existing resources while they add their large print versions  - but that does not seem possible because the 'manage activities' permission encompasses both adding and deleting?

When eventually your organisation is able to upgrade to Moodle 3.1 which is out around the end of the month, it has a built in safety net in the shape of a "recycle bin" so if people do accidentally delete resources, they can be retrieved again wink

And in the meantime, if your school is able to add plugins to the site, you can add the recycle bin to an earlier Moodle version. I found you online and see you are hosted by an external company - it might be worth checking with them.
