This morning I was told by one of my students that she could no longer see many of the course activities throughout my Moodle site. From my admin page, everything looked fine and present. But from the student's account, they were in fact missing. I didn't do anything to cause this (as far as I was aware). I eventually figured out that if I "add" activity permissions (URLs and File Resources) under the role of 'Student', the activities re-appear for the students. It was obvious at this point that my default user role ID somehow switched from "Authenticated User" to "Student", which didn't have the same permissions to view course activities, etc.
I checked my Moodle Config log, and sure enough, there was something in there from the night before that I didn't specifically do but might have caused by fiddling with something else (I still don't know what). Anyway, here's a pic of the Config log showing my defaultuserroleID changed from 'Id 7' (Authenticated User) to 'id 0' (I'm not sure what 'id 0' is...front page?).
Anyway, I have NO idea what caused this. My biggest concern however is that I can't get the default user role ID setting back to "Authenticated User". Everyone I've seen with a similar problem is always told to just choose "Authenticated User" from the drop-down in USERS ->PERMISSIONS->USER POLICIES and that will solve the problem. My defaultuserroleid has always been set to 'NONE' and I've never had the option of choosing anything else in the past (see picture). I'm a bit confused. Does the setting 'NONE' result in "Authenticated User" being as default? Because if its, my students are not currently being enrolled under "Authenticated User" despite it being set to 'NONE'. Could I have an override possibly set somewhere??
