One Block prevents another working - Moodle 2.9.4

This may be a bit vague but...

I have created a block which works.  There are four icons in the block, each of which opens a page/form combination.  It works.


I have created another set of code which I've placed in Moodleroot/local/ to run from /local/blockname/ but this somehow prevents the other block working.  Can anyone suggest why this might be the case?

I've renamed all my functions in my lib.php file to begin with local_blockname_ and it now works correctly and doesn't interfere.


I guess that I should have followed the recommended nomenclature.
