Question Bank > Categories scroll-of-death

Dear all,

Is there a way to limit / collapse the categories list in the Question Bank > Categories view?

With over 2500 categories and subcategories (and growing), the list alone takes a while to load, and searching through it is becoming a pain.

All categories need to be in one place, since all are used (heavily) in numerous quizzes in any one of my courses; almost all questions used in quizzes are of the 'random' type.

Thanks (Moodle 2.9)

I also am not a fan and I am a heavy user of categories. I wonder if there's a better way to display the question banks in general or to use a different organizational tool. Tags can be added to questions, would that be easier/better? That way you would have a flexible hierarchy.

The course categories layout is better, and collapsible.

Would be a good template to use.

I just wish I could hide the quiz category descriptions!

It is probably like that because:

  • That is how it was built.
  • The number of people with thousands of categories is tiny.
  • Therefore, no-one can be bothered to fixe things just for those few users.

Got that guys?  Tim is probably right.  Like Rogerian counselling.

"Rogerian counselling is non directive counselling. ... each of us has the ability to find our own inner resources and the answers that are right for us at that time"  When this code was written, it just wasn't right.

And the Gestalt "Prayer"

I do my thing and you do your thing.

I am not in this world to live up to your expectations,

And you are not in this world to live up to mine.

You are you, and I am I,

and if by chance we find each other, it's beautiful.

If not, it can't be helped.
