When I give group assignments, only one of the students of each group has to upload the report. But this means that the other group members have not submitted anything, even though they are part of the group. This is no problem within the assignment itself: all members of a group are shown as having submitted the files. But the progress bar however shows that these students have not completed the task.
1) Does using the option that all group members have to approve the submission by one of them ("Require all group members submit" in the assignment settings) solve this problem? It seems like a hassle that all students should give their approval via Moodle, so I do not use it at the moment. But if this helps to give them all a green brick in the progress bar, I might consider it.
2) Would it be possible to include an option in the progress bar configuration (or in the assignment settings) to consider a group assignment as completed for all members if one of them has submitted? Right now the only options given in the assignment settings for activity completion are View, Receive a grade or Submit, but for each individual student. I haven't checked yet what happens if I tick Receive a grade and then grade the report: does that make the task completed for all group members or just for the one submitting the report?
An update to what I posted last week:
I changed the settings for activity completion for the assignment to Receive a grade, and this works for all students in the group: they now all have completed the task, regardless of who submitted the report. But that still leaves a time lag between submitting (when the students have completed their part of the deal) and grading (my job), with red flags in the progress bar that are not due to the students.
In another course, I ask the students to form groups and start one discussion per group in a forum. Again, only the student that posts the discussion gets the credit for posting, and there are no group setttings in Forum.
