Removing port number from website

Hi,

I have just setup an internal moodle for my team using a laptop. Will be migrating to a server in the future. Currently, I am accessing the website via http://team01:8080/. If possible, I would like to change the web address to http://moodle/team. I am currently using moodle 2.91. Also, I would like to ask if I need to be an admin in order to create quiz from question banks. Thanks.

It will depend on your web server, are you using Apache or IIS?  Do you know what the port is set to 8080? (the default is normally 80).

If you are going to move the files and database to a new machine that is configured as standard the chances are that it will be setup for port 80 and so you will not need an port part of the url (the bit after the smile.

I am currently using apache to run the moodle. my config file was set to listen at 8080 cause i am not sure why port 80 is unable to display the website.

Howard is right (not uncommon)

You might try turning off all the "usual suspects" until it works. For example switch your apache back to port 80 then disable Skype if you having it running. If that makes no difference turn off apache and then make a request for http://localhost. You should get an error, if you don't then you have another web server running (typically IIS). Let us know the result of trying those ideas. Do some web searches on the topic, many other people have had a similar problem. Are you running Windows?
