How accurate are the course activity logs?

Happy New Year everyone!

We have always relied on our student activity course logs being correct. (Moodle 1.9.4 (Build: 20090128)

We use them to suggest content for review if a test is failed i.e. they did not view the Chapter with that content in and also to confirm students have not accessed content during the exam to check answers.

Are the logs accurate i.e. do they really log every activity?

We have never had cause to doubt till now, so I would really appreciate your thoughts - thanks in advance!

Moodles logging is a server side activity and so it will be accurate in the sense that if you view something that should be logged you can be confident it will be logged. I say this to distinguish things that are triggered by a javascript call which can be more problematic.  Logging has changed a great deal since Moodle 1.X, particularly after Moodle 2.7, but the fundamentals of recording a page request and then writing that information to the database has not.
