No Reply Button with 'Visible Groups' in Standard Forum

I have the forum set to "Standard forum for general use."

The group mode is set to "Visible Groups"  (I use groups to organize students by class period)

Students can see the postings of the other Groups, but they cannot Reply.

Under Permissions I have allowed an Override to Students "Can post to all Groups that you have access to"

Still, students cannot post replies to students in other groups.  How do I turn on this functionality?

Thanks!

Hi Jason

The user will only be able to reply to the group that they are assigned to. They will be able to see all other posts, but they won't be able to reply. The user will need to select their own group from the pull down menu (see image below) to be able to reply. If that doesn't work, then you may want to revisit your permission settings.

Using groups with discussion forums allow teachers to restrict interaction between students. Separate groups mean only students in the same group can see and participate in discussions within a particular forum. Visible groups allow students to see other group's discussions, but only participate in their own group's discussions.
